At 1800Ewaste we like to keep track of new and developing government initiatives towards electronic waste. If you’ve read our other articles, you’ll know that one such initiative we’ve followed closely is one put forward by Product Stewardship Australia. The PSA proposed a change to the way electronic waste was dealt with by passing back the responsibility of recycling to the manufacturer. However, according to the PSA the legislation aimed to be in place by 2011. Is Australia lagging behind when it comes to ewaste legislation?

In a world where we update our technology almost as often as we change out socks, you’d think that getting rid of ewaste would be getting easier. But it seems that, in Australia, we’re falling behind in our race against ewaste. The Australian government published a fact sheet on their National Waste Policy that stated that “waste generation has continued to grow and our increased efforts at recycling and reuse are not keeping up”.
